Bestest Soup Ever – {accordingly to my daughter anyway}

Yep the TACO SOUP that I blogged about yesterday was delish.

My husband ate 3 bowls (regretted it afterward because he was SO FULL – but he did, in fact, eat 3 BOWLS!)

My daughter said it was the “bestest super supper soup ever!”  I’m gonna try to remember that quote!  I guess with results like these -  I’ll make it again.

As I mentioned yesterday – I just threw it together with stuff I already had in the pantry – here’s the low-down (er I mean recipe):

------------------------------------------------------------

1 pound ground beef (or turkey would do if you’d prefer)

1/2 onion chopped

Brown these two & drain as needed

put in the old crock pot along with:

1 large can crushed tomatoes

1 sm can stewed or whole tomatoes (broken up)

I or 2 cans chili beans (I did one this time as that is what I had in the pantry – remember?)

1 package dry ranch dressing (like hidden valley ranch)

1 1/2 cups water

2 packets taco seasoning (I did one red & one white from Chi-chi’s Fiesta seasoning mix– i think they’ve updated their package to green rather than red around the outside if you’re looking for it at the grocery store )

for future reference -- This stuff is also super yummy for regular taco’s, burritos, etc!  When the chi-chi’s restaurants closed down – we went out and bought a case of it (turned out they kept this stuff in the stores so we had quite a supply for a LONG TIME– lol)  One less thing to add to the grocery list for like 3 years!

ok – on to the rest of the recipe –

are you ready?  This is the super technical part --

  • Turn on crock pot
  • Return when ready to eat
  • Serve  with yummy French bread, crackers, cheese, sour cream, avocado etc. – choose these or any other toppings you’d like to provide
  • (some might like extra hot sauce on the side like my hubby).  Remember he ate 3 bowls with extra hot sauce – thought he might have to sleep in the car but it all fared well!  :)

How stinkin easy is that?

------------------------------------------------------------

My MIL got me this cute apron on clearance at our local Target (so I was super cute while I was making the super soup!  oooh la la!)

it was quite a steal at $3.74.  They also had this one:

Another TIP for you:

Poor, poor Rhoda from Southern Hospitality – had a little accident on her glass top stove:

Got a little distracted by the wonderfulness of blogdom & forgot about a pot on the stove --- eeek.

So I left her this comment about a recent find of mine:

“one of the BEST stove top cleaners I’ve run across is liquid bar keep friends. http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/ This is NOT an info-mercial for them – it is just the only thing I’ve found to work well…..don’t know if it will fix this but…….worth a try. I works FABULOUSLY at cleaning the copper bottom pans (found that out by accident yesterday!) & the stainless kitchen sink – yep that too…..”

If it works for you – tell ‘em Northern Cottage sent ya!

Have a great one!!

  3. I'm printing out your taco soup recipe, I'm sure my hubby will love this & it's different from regular chili. I've had it before, but never got a recipe. Sounds easy too & that I love.

Thanks for the sympathy on my stove. I'm afraid that nothing will work on it, it's permanently marked & ruined & cracked, so I will def. have to replace that glass top. I've heard great things about Barkeeper's Friend though. Thanks for stopping by!
