I’m in LOVE with old cheese boxes like this
These cheese boxes were my grandfather’s (click here for a little bit more about Grandpa the Fireman) who was extraordinary. He was organized, handy, a fabulous cook, gardener, incredible dad, etc. {Plus he loved my grandma like crazy…serious honeymoon all their lives!}
Living through the depression, one of his collections was these cheese boxes. He was doing then (out of necessity) what we love to do now for decor/fun. Using what they had and repurposing!
Mom inherited these and passed them down to me years ago.
So I have quite a collection…that I’ve been adding to as I run across them at sales, etc.
Look at all the junk inside – mmmmm - gonna look through all of these metals cans and do something with all that soon, too!
Now on to my one of my favorite things --
A shelf made out of old crates to hold these cheese boxes.
Many of the boxes also have little itty bitty cute knobs at the front for drawer pulls. mmmmm
All together – isn’t it junky fabulousness?
ahhhhhh ….. great storage, great memories of loved ones past
GREAT VINTAGE JUNK
does it get any better?

Thanks for stopping by! I am in love with those cheese boxes. Love the way those fit into the crates. So much better too when it all reminds you of your grandpa. I don't think it gets much better.

ReplyDeleteOh, this is such a fun piece! I use to have several old cheese boxes but they got lost along the way. I've never seen them used as drawers. Very creative!
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm off to look at your blog :)

I love old wooden boxes and this was a great idea! Vintage junk is the best!!! ~Deb~
ReplyDeleteI love the crate to hold all the storage boxes. I have a small collection of sewing drawers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being my first link! ;) I love this idea... but I REALLY am digging your black stools. You have inspired me to do that. My kitchen bar has no stools... and I am going to use your idea. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the wooden boxes! What a great find.
ReplyDeleteWow-wee...I love, love, love this and how cool that it came from your grandpa. Laurel@chippingwithcharm
ReplyDeleteFound one of these cheese boxes, turned storage on one of my curbside junking mornings. Will never forget seeing it all by itself in the grass with a light layer of snow. It was about 5 am, and I said to my hubby...what is that? I squealed when I got closer and saw the 12 cheese drawers all connected, each with a different unique handle! We sold it in the first hour we were open! It was one of those items that was hard to part with:( Glad you get to treasure yours! Lora @patinageneral.typepad.com
ReplyDeleteFabulous way to make them both beautiful and useful!
