Jewelry Organization

I picked up this little THING -

I’m not sure what its original intended purpose was but I decided to use it to store my necklaces and bracelets, etc

I painted it up and distressed it a bit.
I love the old look of it.

I’m just loving it….before I had them all layered on my silver cake plate {which you can see in the background above & which I loved the look of} but it was not as functional.

The new set up displays them all for easy viewing, easy access and no more tangles….nice!

Featured – Top 50 DIY Blogs

I’ve been feeling the love lately…awwww

I was recently featured as one of the……

Top 50 DIY Blogs

Here is the excerpt on my little ol blog -

Northern Cottage

Those who “love junk, home, and crafts” will find much to love on this blog. There are a lot of ideas for home decor, but you’ll also find some great little gift projects, as well. Two of our favorites include metal flowers (do something useful with all those used cans!) and these button bracelets (raid your own mother’s button collection!).

Check out the full post here and peruse through the other lovely featured blogs as well.

Winter Mantle {Northern Cottage} Style

I so enjoy switching things up….

I LOVE our fireplace

so tall

so solid

so rocky

I’m also very digging having the contrast to that dark rock with something lighter in color and yet solid enough to pair well with the substance of the fireplace overall

Here’s what I’ve come up with for now {no telling how long this will last around these parts!}

home 002

We recently had a dinner party and one of the attendees didn’t get ‘junk’.

When she saw the fireplace – she started to…

laugh

and said ‘well that’s interesting!”
(in a very nice way – she just didn’t get it)

You guys ‘get it’, right?

It’s not strange to have a window above my fireplace at all, is it?

Crinkly Paper Flowers

This is a quick, easy and FREE little craft project
Isn’t that a GREAT combination (quick, free and easy?)
home 015
Take newspaper
Comics for a hit of light color
or black & white for a classic neutral version
Fold it up so there is a stack of papers…..I took the comic section and folded it up 4 times.
Cut 3 sets of circles (small, medium, large)
Hole punch through each layers of circles
home 010
home 011
Separate the cut circles into individual circles
Wet them a bit (don’t drown them just moisten)
Crinkle them up and let them dry
You can either
let them dry a bit and them put them onto a brad (little ones on first so they are on top).  They are more fragile and a little more likely to tear at the hole but you can do it this way if you like (or if you are impatient like me - ahem!)

or let them dry completely and then put them on the brads
Squish the petals as they dry.
Close of up the back of the brad

And you end up with some cute little flowers…

From here you can:
    • Add a loop to the back and hang em up or use as bows on gifts!
    • Spray them with clear sealer and use them as
    • pins
    • additions to headbands
    • barrettes
    • magnets
    • grouped in a bowl and set out just for pretty
You can use whatever scrapbook paper you’d like for this project to interject the colors of your choice.
