europe 2013 highlights {croatia, venice and denmark}

continuing on in our trip… we’ve hit spain, france, italy thus far….

now we move on to a day in croatia.  I didn’t have expectations of croatia….but it was stunningly beautiful…  the sea, the mountains, the history

There was a definite mix of wealth and need.   On one end of the spectrum we saw very stylish women dressed well and then an open market with meat and food displayed for everyday purchase.

Something we don’t see in america (gag!):

but beautiful handmade goods are appreciated everywhere

I peeked my head into a beautiful sewing boutique that had millions of buttons – sigh!

after croatia, we landed in venice and left our ship behind

talk about breathtaking!  we took the water taxi from the port to san marco square (which was near our hotel), left our luggage and started roaming.  what a delightful thing to do….

just explore, just walk, just get lost in venice.  yes please- anyday!!

we also took a boat across to the islands of murano (glass blowing), burano (lace making) which were lovely and colorful.

we stayed a night here in venice (our hotel was ok but not spectacular like our boutique hotel in barcelona) but we were barely there with all the exploring we did (& then got up early to hit our flight to denmark)

denmark was extra special since we were able to stay with family and really relax…we took in so many wonderful sights….tivoli gardens with its gorgeous blooms:
